Dubai, 27 August 2017 – On the UAE’s second annual Emirati Women’s Day, TVM Capital Healthcare, a private equity firm that invests in emerging market healthcare, celebrates the achievements of Emirati women and the UAE’s progressive attitude towards women’s economic empowerment.
TVM Capital Healthcare’s investment approach supports gender equality in the workplace, with a female workforce ratio of 35 percent. The company’s portfolio companies have some of the highest female board representation in the region, including a 50:50 female/male board composition at Manzil Healthcare Services, a TVM Capital Healthcare-owned home care provider.
Hoda Abou-Jamra, Founding Partner at TVM Capital Healthcare, CEO at Bourn Hall International, the region’s leading IVF and fertility clinic, Founding Chair of the 30% Club GCC Chapter, and prominent advocate for female empowerment, commented:
“Diversity is important for society, because it encourages acceptance and tolerance. And it makes business sense as well. Empowering women and creating balanced boards helps to mirror customers and society at large in a better way, building healthy and sustainable businesses that are better connected to their customers and a wider marketplace of ideas and innovation.”
She added: “As a founding member of the 30% Club GCC Chapter, I aim to lead by example. Two of the five companies that TVM Capital Healthcare has or was invested in were founded by women. All TVM Capital Healthcare portfolio companies based in the UAE have women on their boards, including Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center. We are especially proud to welcome Laila Al Jassmi, a renowned Emirati healthcare leader, as the latest female board member at Bourn Hall International.”
The 30% Club GCC Chapter is part of a global business-led initiative committed to achieving better gender representation in senior leadership positions, and was launched in November 2015.
Laila Al Jassmi, Founder of Health Beyond Borders, and the newly appointed board member for Bourn Hall International, commented:
“This Emirati Women’s Day, themed Women are partners in giving, is a celebration of the indispensable role that women play in the UAE’s communities, and an inspiration to young Emirati girls hoping to make an impact in society. It’s also a reminder to the private sector of the importance of female board representation.”
“The UAE has made considerable progress in encouraging female representation at the top of government and the private sector, and this is due to the strategic vision of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak. My appointment to the board of Bourn Hall International brings the ratio of female board members at the company up to 28.6 percent – almost in line with the 30% Club’s global vision. I hope that my appointment encourages more Emirati women to pursue leadership positions in the private sector.”
